Sōkyū was first a pupil of Shunkyo Yamamoto then Inshō Dōmoto. Sōkyū painted many pictures of flowers and (or) birds in the nihonga style and this gallery shows twenty-five examples. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Most of Sōkyū’s paintings used the horizontal format instead of the traditional vertical format for a scroll painting.
